The westsail 32 Po Chang is sold to Mr Richard T of Chicoutimi, Quebec. It will leave Urbanna in the nex 15 days approx. Chicoutimi will be her new home port. Its new name will be Isobarre ... I will be in Urbanna, VA at the end of next week to assist on its preparation and say goodbye. Sad, but its new owner will take care of her. She will be navigating on the Saint Laurence and will visit Nova Scotia, les Iles de la Madeleine and more. I am certain she will be the envy of all and make her new owner proud ... Po Chang for the couple of months will be a motorcycle; the crew except Little Po have decided to jump on this new adventure ...

The W32 can be viewed in Urbanna, VA. It is on the hard at Cameron marine, 25 Cross Street, Urbanna ... When you get there get a coffee at Cross Street Coffee shop on Cross Street and if in need of assistance, they will gladly provide. Beautiful town and area to visit; excellent place to prep Po Chang for its next adventure. Best time to own it is presently; ideal spring temperature in VA !!!

En voyage, pas en vacance ... vie difficile !!! On a voyage, not holidays. 2010 arrive a grand pas ... Po Chang passera Noel avec Yoda ... Yoda a exigé qu'on refasse une beauté de Po; un peu beaucoup de TLC est a prévoir afin qu'il redevienne un 10! Yoda nous a aussi avisé qu'il est tanné de faire du 'sur place' a terre ... On va s'en occuper ... Po Chang will spend Christmas with Yoda ... Yoda requested that we refresh Po so it can shine on the water in 2010 and also mentionned that he was fed up of beeing on the hard ... In 2010, Po will become a 10 again and start moving again ... 6 months plus to go and GO

Po, Jean, Tipo and Patachon completed a meeting; a pre-holiday one. We discussed the small voyages we completed together during the last 2 years, the friends we met and lasting friendships which followed, the small towns and rivers visited on the Bay; we looked at photos; souvenirs, beautiful souvenirs ...
We talked about the night at anchor, the sunsets, the blows, the heat, and always the encounters and friends. We talked about the initial plan when we first started and the short distance we made; not very far but we built a crew which supported each other and became better.
Po described to us his satisfaction and joy at having us as partners and crew; all is now so easy, predictable and accomplished with care and precision; he also mentionned that he cannot envision himself without his friends or another crew for the coming years.
Not easy for a sailboat to adapt to a new crew; those guys - as you were - never knew what to do or when or how... brute force initially was the recourse; very unpleasant when you are a sailboat; not just a sailboat but Po .... Since 1975, many have come and gone, I am tired and fed up of those changes and prefer to stay with this crew for a long time ...
At the start of the meeting, I thought we would vote in order to determine ... We all decided to hang together and continue; we have still a long distance to go. Yep, Po is beautiful; she attracted lots of attention and HAs and HOs as well as compliments ... However, we continue !!! 2010 here we come ....

Une réunion a eu lieu ce soir entre Jean, Po Chang, Tipo, Patachon Cork (nouvel équipier). On a discuté des petits voyages qu 'on a complétés ensemble, des amis rencontrés, des villages et villes visités; on a regardé les photos des 2 dernières années ... que de souvenirs; de beaux souvenirs.
Des soirées a l'ancre avec musique, des coups de vent, du soleil assommant, et toujours des rencontres et de nouvelles amitiés. On a discuté du planning initial et ou on est rendu; pas très loin en distance mais on a bati un équipage solide qui se soutenait les uns, les autres.
Po nous a fait part de la satisfaction qu'il a maintenant de nous avoir comme partenaire; tout est plus facile, prévisible et réalisé avec beaucoup plus d'attention; il nous a aussi mentionné qu'il ne peut pas envisager un autre équipage que ces amis des 2 dernières saisons.
Pas facile en tant que voilier de s'adapter a un nouvel equipage; ils savent jamais quoi faire ou quand, ils me cognent partout; bref, depuis 1975 que ca change constamment ... il est un peu tanné et préfère demeurer longtemps avec nous.
Au début de la réunion, je croyais que l'on voterait afin de déterminer ... On a tous décidé de continuer ensemble; ouais Po est beau, il a attiré les regards et les compliments ... Mais on continue.

Thanks to Diane and Don of Urbanna Town marina. Yesterday, a local went to visit Po ... he then called me and mentionned that 2 hatches were opened (thanks Parker)... I tried to call Scott C at the boatyard and could not reach him ... I just sent an email to Diane saying help last night ... This morning, I got an email back saying that Don went to the boatyard and closed the hatches ...
Diane and Don have nothing to do with the boatyard and it is not there responsibility; but as a friend to another, they just went and did it ... Great people and many many thanks; very grateful to you
No real assessment oof the damage details if any except for a wet cushion ...

Hello Gang,
Made the trip from Great Kills to Cape May in 27 hours this time, 50% under "pure sail". Lots of wind from the beam and quarter. Could not get Peter the Dancer to steer properly. He simply could not deal with the gusts. Most probably my fault for not adjusting a proper lee helm.
So I turned the helm over to Magnet. Good old Magnet, what a woman, she never bitches and moans!
Plan on heading up the bay to Greenwich tomorrow. West wind, 10-15, gusting 25 forecast. Hope I can lay the course.
Hey T-Bob, thanks for the info of cheap tie-up in Urbanna. But I'm slated to head south to Florida this year, the VA hospital in Madeira Beach. Need dentures & some kind a new "pig heart".

Garth and I met a family from New Zealand while we were in Reedville. They were living aboard a 56 foot boat with their two kids. We sailed with them on their boat to New York and helped them do some work. While there, we met a guy named David who owned one of the boats they did work on. David had a 8000$ apartment in Lower Manhattan, so he gave it to Garth and I for three weeks while he was on vacation with his family aboard his own boat. After the three weeks in New York, we visited Garth's sister in Boston. Then we came back to reedville to get our boat, planning on sailing south. But our engine needs work and we don't have the money for it. So we've had to put our boat up for sale and undertake a new project. Hope everything is well with you.

De retour ... Je cherche mes repères sur terre. Le premier matin, je cherchais les cloisons de Po afin de me retenir, le petit mouvement de l'eau, les espaces fournis par l'eau ... Bizarre et un choc tous les bruits de la ville... Bon, on y est pour plusieurs mois et faut s'y faire

2 belles journées sur la rue St Denis avec Ray, Ja et Mme Mo. Plein d'histoires, des bouffes, des petits travaux, des déplacements, des rires avec un grand ami; comme toujours, c'est comme si on s'est vu la journée d'avant.

Coté travail; complété une offre de service avec Michel B.; rencontre la semaine prochaine et décision dans les jours suivants; mandat le fun si accepté. Rencontre prévue mercredi pour un poste en sécurité ... et une deuxième demande pour Québec pour un projet de 4 mois; la première est une référence de Yves R. mais sans nouvelle depuis 2 semaines ... Mathieu L continue ces recherches ... En résumé, 4 projets en cours; lequel et quand ... A suivre

Je vais voir fiston ce matin ... j'ai hate; cette aprème coupe de cheveux. (et on ramasse des habits de travail)

Demain, probablement Morin Heights et je dois confirmer a Khouz de venir me chercher dimanche pour une couple de jours (on va examiner quelle valeur Po devrait afficher, ou le publiciser, le texte, partie de hockey, blabla, etc.) ... Retour Mardi soir afin de pouvoir rencontrer une firme mercredi 10 AM (Contact de Mathieu)...

Toujours en squatting, pas décidé encore comment et ou je m'installe ... Ray (temporaire présentement) Suzanne ( a déterminer mais trop loin de Montréal), Sonia ( moins loins mais loin ... beaucoup de temps de voyagement) ... La meilleure solution semble etre Mathieu (chambre, metro, 5 minutes de Mtl. et Ray, etc. )...

Est ce que Po, l'eau , les grands espaces, le vent, les nuages, mes ami(e)s de la VA, etc. me manquent ? Mais très certainement !!!

Toutes sortes de questions sur Asie ... 3 options; option 1- California et voile sur Pacifique, 2 - Bateau de Norfolk a Hong Kong, Langkawi, Singapore, 3- Vente du Westsail sur la Baie et achat a Phucket d'un autre voilier ... Dans tous les cas, Po Chang est pas a vendre et demeure bien vivant et en santé !!! A tous mes ami(e)s de Urbanna et la cote Est, ce fut un plaisir et j'ai bon espoir de vous rencontrer ici, a Montreal ou ailleurs !!!
Tipo is ready, Patachon is ready, Po will be on the ground tomorrow and Jean is almost ready ... All kinds of questions on the Asia project ... 3 options; Option 1; Transport the boat to California and sail it to Asia, Option 2- Transport the boat by boat from Norfolk to Asia, Option 3- Sell the Westsail on the East Coast and buy another one in Phucket or around... In all cases, Po Chang is not for sale, is very much alive and in good health !!! Ce truc a déversé 3 a 5 po de pluie dans 3 heures ... Po Chang est propre propre ... Selon plusieurs, c'est la quantité la plus importante de pluie depuis l'ours a gants Isabelle ... Extra et Super ... la température a baissé de 10 degrés plus ... Dodo tot car les 2 dernieres semaines, la chaleur était ouille ouille ... 3 heures de sommeil par nuit ... ce soir, on va dormir et dormir !!!

Po sera pret demain et sa sortie de l'eau est cédulée pour 1200 lundi . Content et triste de retourner a Montréal ... L'eau et Po vont me manquer terriblement ...

Vers 1730 ...Plus de bouffe sur Po ... je suis donc allé au resto (juste avant le resto, A la demande de Don, je suis passé a son bateau a une autre marina afin de fermer les hublots de son voilier...)... Avant le retour et durant le retour, pluie importante. Yeah, j'ai marché lentement et ralentis a moins que lentement, l'eau était chaude, rafraichissante ... Je suis arrivé a la marina, et Don, le dockmaster m'a regardé d'une facon bizarre (encore) ... et encore plus quand je lui ai dit que j'y retournais ... Faut en profiter, ce sont les dernieres journées ... et quel plaisir que cette pluie abondante et chaude ... A montréal, elle est frette et y fait frette (excepté probablement les 7 derniers jours; je crois qu'on appelle chez nous cette semaine; L'ETE)
Around 1730 ... no more food on Po ... I went to the greek restaurant (before the restaurant, at the request of Don, I stopped at Don's boat at the marina besides the bridge to close the hatches on his sailboat) ... Before and during the return, abundant rain was falling with a bit of badaboum and flashhhflashhh, Yeah, I walked slowly and reduced to less than slow; the rain was refreshing and warm ... I arrived at the marina and Don, the dockmaster, looked at me with a bizarre (again) look on his face ,,, and even more when I returnrd slowly towards Po in this rain ... Taking all in before returning to Mtl, this rain et refreshing and warm ... In Mtl, it is cold and it is cold (except for the last 7 days where it has been nice, warm and that are now callled; SUMMER 09 )

Po durant les semaines passées répétaient constamment que je ne tenais pas les promesses faites lors de son achat; c'est a dire aller en Asie .. et qu'il aurait du demeurer tranquilement a quai sur la Baie avec son ancien proprio... Pas contente la Po, surtout que je lui ai fait subir plusieurs transformations et chirurgies pour cette destination ... toutes plus douloureuses les unes que les autres...
Elles ont gagné ... elles seront bien assises sur une remorque et 7 jours plus tard, elles seront a leur nouveau domicile (toujours inconnu a cette étape) a San Francisco. A San Francisco, elles subiront un examen afin d'assurer leur état physique; le psy., les 2 ont insisté afin de laisser passer prétendant que ca servait a rien ... Elles m'ont finalement convaincu en soulignant toutes les économies (pendant et surtout après ...). Départ de Urbanna; autour de Nov-Déc. Po est en sécurité a Urbanna car sous étroite surveillance par les nombreux amis des 2 dernières années ... Merci Urbanna
Patachon and myself will move to Montreal on the 26th; difficult decision as Patachon decide to follow me to Montreal and will thereafter move to MH; his new home (and promised to him initially) . Po and Tipo are unhappy, sad but do understand...
During the last few weeks, Po and Tipo have been constantly reminding me that I have not kept my promises towards them when we joined together; My big mouth said 'We are going to Asia'.. In addition to reminding me of this promise, Po is now regretting the ex owner which would of left him at dock on the Bay and more important she would not of suffered from the multiple painful modifications and surgeries she has gone thru believing she would travel to Asia in 09 ... WOW, OK, let's do it ... if 09 or 10, we require a shortcut thus ...
Po and Tipo will take the road on a truck ... well seated, 7 days later, they will arrive in San Francisco where a new temporary unknown home awaits them. In San Francisco, they will be physically inspected ... they both vehemently refused to pass any phy. exam. as they pretend it would be a waste of time ... they convinced me by mentionning the economies I would save (during, and even more after ...). Urbanna departure would be in November-December. Po and Tipo feel they are more secure in Urbanna as they have made many many friends in Urbanna during those last 2 years; in SF, they would not only be unsecured but also lonely ... Thanks Urbanna

Week of August 1st to August 7th 2009 Fishing from La Tortugas JDR
My first experience fly fishing in salt water and a GRAND SLAM AUGUST 4th
An unforgettable fishing week at the Jardines . Thanks to Avalon.
This was my first experience fly fishing in saltwater.Upon arriving to Jucaro (port of departure to the Jardines) I met my guide Bimba and told him that I would need a lot of coaching as I was a bass fisherman fishing in small lakes in Québec, Canada which means blind casting. I also told him that I could cast at maximum of 30 feet. His reply was ; “No problem, you will catch fish”.
Minutes after arriving to La Tortuga we headed for a flat on spotless 17 foot Dolphin powered by a 60 HP Yamaha. There was a school of about 100 bonefish with many of them tailing. I caught my first bonefish on a fly within minutes of arrival at Jardines.
The next morning , Bimba showed me how to double haul properly , he can shoot 100 feet of line !
At noon I caught my first tarpon on a fly, a 25 pounder. We saw 5 permits that day.
The next morning , on of August 3rd I caught 5 bones in shallow water in a mangrove lagoon. All of them caught with Mantis Shrimp # 4. In deeper water, mudding bones were caught with Clouser Minnow #2.
Early morning August 4th, I missed a very large tarpon in Boca Grande pass and was very disappointed, however I had no idea of what was going to happen later on that day. At noon I caught a tarpon. At around 4 o’clock I was sitting beside Bimba , we were cruising at 47 mph on green waters, on the same beach we had seen the 5 permits two days before, all of a sudden Bimba made a U turn, I asked him; Que mira ?, his reply: I saw a permit. I said to myself, come on that is impossible to spot a fish at that speed. He stopped the engine , and thirty feet at 1 o’clock there was the permit. The fish could not resist a Merkin Crab, after an incredible fight we took numerous pictures. We were both were very excited. After releasing the permit , Bimba told me that we would return to Tortugas only after I had caught a bonefish. On a beach late that afternoon I caught a tailing bonefish. Voila, I couldn’t believe it, my first time fly fishing in saltwater and I had an Inshore Salt Water Grand Slam !
The next day we fished a cayo about 30 miles east of Tortugas. The bonefish there had a blue coloration at the tips of their tail as well as on their pelvic pelvic fins , they were magnificient fishes. Even though it was very hot, the bone fishes were caught in about one foot of water and all of them with a Squimp fly #6. We were fishing in a mangrove lagoon and there was numerous bonefish as well as tarpons in the same area, it was a lot of fun having to switch from a 8 wt fly line to a 10 to which a black and red Toad size 2 was attached. The largest bonefish caught that day was a 7 pounder.
The last day, Bimba asked me what I wanted to fish, I replied tarpon, we went to Boca Grande and I hooked 17 tarpons (20 to 30 pounds).
I also caught snappers and saw several Jacks but wasn’t fast enough to shoot a fly, these guys passed beside the boat like torpedoes !
It seems like snook are becoming more abundant around Totugas, I saw six during my stay but wasn’t fast enough to cast to them.
The Tortugas is a floating 5 stars hotel. All members of the staff were nice and friendly, and the food was excellent.
My guide and the dive master Noel had incredible knowledge of biology and ecology of the area. Every day I learned a lot about the rich marine life of the Jardines.
I regard them both as true ambassadors of the great realization of the Cuban government in terms of environmental conservation and sustainable resources management.
The Jardines de La Reina is a National Park and is one of Cuba’s largest protected area.
No commercial fishing is allowed except for lobster .
The Jardines is a salt water angler paradise.

Steph me rejoindrait a LA afin de naviguer sur PO et L'amener en Asie (Phukett probable; détails peu importants a cette étape). On vérifie les prix de transport de Urbanna a Los Angeles et en parallele on va faire des sous afin de compléter ce voyage... Je décide demain ou apres demain ou je mets Po (Urbanna étant toujours une option, mais il faut qu'un transport puisse prendre Po et les accessoires). Sinon a Rappahannock Yachts qui est a 2 heures de nav. de Urbanna.
Steph would join me in LA in order to sail Po to Asia (Phukett probable; but not important at this stage). I will verify the transport costs from Urbanna to Los Angeles and while Po is slowly moving towards LA, I go to work ... I will decide tomorrow or wednesday where I will leave Po ready for pickup ... (Urbanna being still the no 1 option but a transporter must be able to pick her up and its accessories). If Urbanna is impossible, Rappahannock Yachts which is between 2-3 motoring hours from here will be the choice ...
